Week # 7: My List of Fabulous Finds

Now that my blog is well over a year old, I find it fun sometimes to look back at articles I published in the past.

blog, one year old, blogiversary

When I looked at my post from 7/24/14, I realized that even though I didn't call it a "List of Fabulous Finds" post at the time, that is exactly what it was.

Many of my current readers may not have seen that post from a year ago, or (like me!) you may have forgotten about it if you had.

The information I shared in that post from other websites was really helpful - and still pertinent.  So today, I'm reminding you of it all again - and providing
one additional “fabulous find” from this week.

(If you want to see the original post and photos, just click here: Five Tips on Blogging and Life - from Other Websites.)

Here are the links, with a few of my current thoughts for each:

#1 I'm an Overwhelmed Blogger, by Julie DeNeen
I may be even more overwhelmed by blogging now than I was a year ago! But I think the advice in this post may be even more helpful to me now.f

#2. An In-N-Out Burger Copycat Recipe by Leigh Ann of Your Home Based Mom
My husband makes amazing burgers (and some day soon I will share his secret for success on this blog) - but ever since my family had our first In-N-Out Burgers, we sometimes crave them. This recipe is so close to the real thing, you almost expect it to be served by someone wearing in a paper hat!
#3.  A technique for peeling farm fresh eggs from Maria at Five Simple Things
This tip really does make peeling eggs (farm fresh or store bought) easy. After recently being given some freshly laid chicken eggs and cooking them the very next day, I understand why Maria encourages everyone to raise chickens. Fresh eggs really are the best!
eggs, peeling eggs, hardboiled eggs

#4 Spoon Reflection Photography tutorial from Katie at Boost Your Photography
I am so fortunate that people like Katie are willing to write tutorials like this about photography. I produced some fun photos with this idea - but perhaps even more importantly became more aware of knowing when a reflection may appear - and taking care to prevent the ones I don't want ... like my own reflection in the soup pot as I take a photo while I'm cooking!
#5. Starting a Blog is Like Having a Baby by Tammy Soong
Admittedly, when I shared this post last year, I thought that 365 days later my post would have matured more than it has. But, I would say we are at least out of infancy! I loved reading this post again - it offers a fun perspective on blogging.
And now, just in case you do remember all these links from last year, here's one more "fabulous find" that I came across this week:

#6. Proof That Montana Weather is Insane by Monica Miller
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will know that I often mention Montana weather. In fact, last Friday I wrote about it, and this week I posted several Instagram photos with the hashtag #likeJuneinJuly.
While our month of June was unseasonably hot and dry, this past week we have had cooler temperatures and much more rain than usual in July. But with the severe potential of forest fires if it had stayed so dry, I don't think any one's complaining. As this article points out - things could be even more extreme!
Montana, sunset, storm

What is the most extreme fluctuation of weather that you have experienced in a day?

This post may be linked to one of the great link-up parties I follow and list on my blog. Check them out!

  1. Wonderful blog posts. I'm definitely going to try Leigh Ann's In and Out burger!
Southern Alberta Chinooks take the prize for me. From 40 below to 20 above (C) in three hours.

    1. We get drastic changes from Chinooks here too Diane - although they don't seem to be accompanied by the characteristic type of cloud bank that I remember from my days in Calgary.

  3. I'm laughing at the blogger who says "holly crap this is a full time job"...yes, I had no idea what I would be getting into but I am happy as a clam. It is so nice to met so many like minded people who are warm, considerate and helpful. The freindships I am making, the things I learn every day - It makes it all worth while. And on top of that I get to blog about what I love to do (in my case repurposing/upcycling old things) Thanks for sharing!

  4. I get a lot more satisfaction, education and laughter from blogging that I got from most jobs. I cry more too. And love it.
I am intrigued by the photography tips. Thinking, thinking, thinking...

    1. I think the key, Carlee, is focusing on what we have learned - not how much there still is to know! Otherwise it really is overwhelming.

    1. Despite the observation I just made to Carlee, I am overwhelmed as well Lana. Especially about the whole social media sharing part!

  7. I find that since becoming friends with you and Lana as well. I am always watching the weather in your part of the world. The biggest change in weather for me happened last year. We woke up to snow which is highly unlikely here in SC and by the afternoon it was sunny and 60. My husband was cleaning the snow off of his car in shorts and barefooted! I don't think I'll ever get used to SC weather. My husband and I both miss the snow! I'm getting caught up today I've been AWOL for a while!
